Hurray - summer is finally here! With warmer weather, lighter nights and school holidays on the way, there is no better time to relax, have fun and make unforgettable memories.

There is so much going on in Chesterfield this summer that you’ll be spoilt for choice, from festivals and street food markets to family fun days and shopping events.

Here are some of our top picks.

Peddler Market - 23rd & 24th June, New Square

Sheffield’s renowned street food market, Peddler, is set to land in Chesterfield later this month! The event, which usually takes place in Kelham Island, is a firm foodie favourite and will see lots of local vendors celebrated. The Sheffield event is one of the country’s largest food markets and regularly pulls in 8,000 visitors. Think loaded fries, wood-fired pizza and bao buns, topped off with a range of independent beers and cocktails, music and family entertainment. It’s not one to be missed!

Chesterfield Canal Festival - 24th & 25th June, Staveley Basin

Expect fun for all the family at Chesterfield Canal Festival on the last weekend in June. See the tripboats in action, alongside music, street theatre and dancing. There’ll also be a chance to go canoeing and lots of child-friendly activities including face painting, rides and bumper cars, all while supporting Chesterfield Canal Trust.

Chesterfield Flea Market - Every Thursday, Market Place

This one isn’t just reserved for summer, but it’s one so good we couldn’t leave it off the list. Chesterfield is home to one of the biggest weekly flea markets in the country and it’s the perfect chance to pick up some vintage treasure that makes your home feel complete. The artisan market also takes place on the last Sunday of every month, giving you the opportunity to support local independent traders - with everything from food and drink to textiles and art.

Chesterfield Food and Drink Festival - 22nd & 23rd July, Queens Park

If you want to give your tastebuds a treat, head down to Queen’s Park in July to sample some exciting street food and interesting drinks. Whether craft ales are your thing or you’re more interested in artisan spirits, there’s something for everyone. What’s better, you get to enjoy it in the beautiful surrounding of one of the town’s biggest green spaces - fingers crossed for the weather!

Chesterfield Pride - 23rd July, Stand Road Park

Gear up for one of the biggest Pride events in the region on Sunday, 23rd July. The event has continued to grow and will see two stages packed with entertainment this year. Headline acts include 90s boyband A1 and Tinchy Stryder, and you can even purchase a VIP experience, which includes priority entry, private toilets and a private bar.

Open Air Cinema - 29th July, The Meadow at Ashgate Hospice

Fancy watching a film under the stars? The Open Air Cinema at Ashgate Hospice is showing Top Gun: Maverick this summer. The sunset screening will be held in the hospice’s Meadow and you’ll be able to enjoy gourmet pizza and drinks on the night. Remember to bring your own picnic blanket or camping chair!

Chesterfield Children’s Festival - 29th & 30th July, Queen’s Park

This year sees a brand new family event from Junction Arts, including music, theatre, storytelling, dance and art workshops. Entertainment announced so far includes a silent disco tour, an interactive game zone, a comedy club, a circus, storytime yoga, tie-dye workshops, face-painting and a brass band playing Disney tunes.

Eat in the Park Festival - 5th & 6th August, Queen’s Park

This festival will bring a huge line-up of tribute acts and local music, alongside food and drink vendors and children’s entertainment. Acts include tributes to The Killers, Arctic Monkeys and Abba. Buxton Brewery will also have a tent featuring local acts and there’ll be rides, magicians and more.
