‘Bigger and better’ Chesterfield Half Marathon confirmed for 2018

This year’s Redbrik Chesterfield Half Marathon is set to be bigger and better than ever.

New features include a later start time, additional races and an inaugural Wellbeing Challenge.

The event, which is backed by Chesterfield Borough Council, will take place on Sunday 21 October 2018, starting at 9.30am in Queen’s Park, Chesterfield, with leading estate agency Redbrik returning as headline sponsor for the second year of its five-year sponsorship deal.

Chesterfield-based charity Ashgate Hospicecare and North Anston-based Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice will be charity partners of the 2018 race following a hugely successful inaugural event in 2017, which raised more than £50,000 for good causes.

More than 800 runners signed up for the first Redbrik Chesterfield Half Marathon in 2017, with event organisers hoping for a four-figure sign-up total this year.

The 2018 event schedule is bolstered by an additional five-mile challenge, which will take place in tandem with the Half Marathon along with a Fun Run in the park. There will also be a ‘Wellbeing Challenge’, a team entry event that will promote healthy living – details for which will be released in due course.

Applications for the 2018 Redbrik Chesterfield Half Marathon are now open – visit www.redbrikchesterfieldhalf.com for full details.

The event’s charity partners will be holding a pop up shop on Saturday 27th January 9am until 4pm at Redbrik’s lettings office on Glumangate, Chesterfield.

This will give prospective charity runners the opportunity to meet representatives from Ashgate Hospicecare and Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice and receive fundraising tips and advice, as well as the chance to sign up to the Half Marathon and benefit from the early bird sign up discount, which expires on 31st January.

John Timms, events director at event organiser MLS Contracts Ltd, said: “Our objective is to make this event the biggest mass-participation event in the region, and I believe we’re firmly on the right track to achieving that goal – this year’s event will be bigger and better than ever.

“Seeing more than 800 people sign up to last year’s event was fantastic – and we’re optimistic we can beat that figure this year. With more than £50,000 raised for charities across the region in 2017, we’ll again be supporting some great local causes in Ashgate Hospicecare and Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.

“Along with Chesterfield Borough Council and Redbrik Estate Agents, without whom the Chesterfield Half Marathon simply would not be possible, we’re excited to see where we can take the Redbrik Chesterfield Half Marathon in 2018.”

Mark Ross, director at Redbrik Estate Agency, said: “We’re delighted to see details confirmed for the 2018 Redbrik Chesterfield Half Marathon following the success of last year’s event.

“Last year’s event was special, especially seeing so much raised for some great causes. We’re proud to have pledged our backing to the Chesterfield Half Marathon for five years and are looking forward to seeing the event grow, starting with the 2018 race.”

Councillor Steve Brunt, Chesterfield Borough Council’s cabinet member for town centres and visitor economy, said: “We were extremely pleased with the success of the inaugural Redbrik Chesterfield Half Marathon in 2018 and were only too happy to give our backing to the event again in 2018.

“The Redbrik Chesterfield Half Marathon will help to put Chesterfield firmly on the UK running map – as well as support some fantastic charities.

“Events like this one help bring communities together and we’re really looking forward to seeing how the Redbrik Chesterfield Half Marathon will develop in 2018.”
