Feel the buzz at Tramlines
No Sheffield summer would be complete without Tramlines.
Returning to Hillsborough Park from 24th - 26th July, Sheffield's biggest music festival brings together world-class artists, incredible food vendors, comedy, family entertainment and thousands of festivalgoers for one of the city's most anticipated weekends.
If you don't have a festival ticket, don't worry.
The Fringe at Tramlines transforms Sheffield city centre into one giant live music venue, with hundreds of free performances taking place in pubs, bars, cafés and outdoor spaces across the city. It's one of the best weekends of the year to discover somewhere new while soaking up Sheffield's famous music scene.
Explore the Pride of Yorkshire sculpture trail
Looking for something the whole family can enjoy?
Running until 8th September, the Pride of Yorkshire Sculpture Trail features more than 150 beautifully decorated lion sculptures across Sheffield and South Yorkshire, celebrating 150 years of Sheffield Children's Hospital.
It's completely free to take part and offers a fantastic excuse to explore different parts of the city, whether you're hunting for lions with the children or simply enjoying a walk through the city centre.
Discover Sheffield's independent side
Spend a morning exploring Leah's Yard, home to a collection of independent retailers, makers and cafés, before heading to Cambridge Street Collective for lunch. On 19th July, the venue also hosts the Tilly & Primrose Independent Pop-Up, showcasing a carefully curated selection of local businesses and creatives.
Later that day, wander over to Grey to Green for the Pollen Botanical Market, where you'll find local florists, plant specialists, artisan food producers and independent traders in one of Sheffield's most distinctive outdoor spaces.
The celebrations continue later in the summer with the Abbeydale Road Beer Festival, returning from 30th July to 2nd August. Stretching across one of Sheffield's most vibrant independent neighbourhoods, the festival sees 12 bars host tap takeovers, alongside street food, DJs and exclusive festival giveaways. It's a brilliant showcase of the city's thriving food, drink and independent business scene.
It's the perfect way to support local businesses while discovering something a little different.
Enjoy Sheffield's green spaces
Sheffield is famous for being one of the UK's greenest cities, and summer is the perfect time to enjoy it.
Pack a picnic for Endcliffe Park, wander through the colourful borders of the Sheffield Botanical Gardens, take a stroll around the Peace Gardens, where Sheffield by the Seaside returns from 23rd July - 29th August, bringing real sand, fairground rides and family entertainment to the heart of the city.
For those looking to stretch their legs, Rivelin Valley Nature Trail, Whirlow Brook Park and Meersbrook Park all offer fantastic walks, scenic views and plenty of space to enjoy the outdoors without leaving the city.
Summer also brings plenty of opportunities to combine great food with the great outdoors. Over the August Bank Holiday weekend (29th - 31th August), the Graves Park Food & Drink Festival returns with international street food, artisan markets, live music, chef demonstrations and family entertainment, all set within Sheffield's largest park. It's the perfect excuse to spend a day outside while enjoying some of the region's best independent food and drink.
Watch world-class sport unfold in the heart of the city
Sheffield's sporting reputation extends far beyond football.
From 16th - 22th July, Ponds Forge International Sports Centre hosts the Aquatics GB Next Gen Championships, where some of Britain's brightest young swimmers compete in one of the country's most prestigious aquatic venues. With free spectator entry, it's a brilliant day out for sports fans and families.
Then, on Wednesday 22th July, the Sheffield Grand Prix brings elite cycling back to the city centre. Part of the British Cycling National Circuit Race Series, the event sees the UK's top riders race around a fast-paced 1.4km circuit, passing landmarks including the Peace Gardens, Town Hall and Crucible Theatre. Alongside the action, there are youth races, a free community ride and an event village, making it a fantastic evening for all ages.
Make the most of long summer evenings
Sometimes the best summer plans don't need a ticket.
Meet friends for dinner on Ecclesall Road, enjoy riverside drinks in Kelham Island, take an evening walk through the Crookes Valley park , or simply find a sunny spot in one of Sheffield's many independent cafés and watch the city go by.
